Note to our visitors: We haven’t had a lot of updates to the Find a Manchester page this year. With the changes in the world, fewer breeders are having litters, costs are going up, and fewer families are taking the leap and adding a new puppy to their home.
But there is good news: we’ve also had a slow year in Manchester Terrier rescue. If you’re still looking for a Manchester Terrier, our best advice is to speak with breeders, find out their plans and get on a waitlist. Many responsible breeders are unwilling to gamble by breeding a litter without a list of dedicated homes at the ready.
If you’ve resisted going the breeder route because of moral or ethical concerns, we hear you. But consider this: By supporting a breeder who seeks to raise their dogs ethically and responsibly, you are helping to put irresponsible breeders out of business – which ultimately reduces the population of unwanted dogs. That’s the number one reason why Manchester Terriers have been so hard to find through rescue – they are going back to their breeders so there is no need for them to enter rescue.
If you’ve been waiting for a rescue because you’re interested in an adult dog, getting on a breeder’s wait list for a retired dog, or an older puppy that was returned, is another great option. A great resource for finding breeders in your area is the American Manchester Terrier Club.

Rescues
You may see a lot of dogs listed on sites like Petfinder but 99% of them are mislabeled and are NOT Manchester Terriers. We will only list actual Manchester Terriers here and you will find there are not many. American Manchester Terrier (AMTC) Rescue is the only rescue dedicated solely to this breed and it takes in less than 10 dogs per year, on average. The typical rescue is a senior toy male. AMTC Rescue gets puppies less than once every 10 years and therefore does not keep a waiting list for puppies. If you are interested in a puppy, we encourage you to review the puppy listings further down the page. There are so many responsible breeders involved with preserving this rare breed that most breeders take their dogs back if their owners cannot keep them, which is why it is difficult to find a Manchester to adopt from rescue.
Adult Rehomes
Adult rehomes may be dogs whose owners have to find them a new home but do not need the services of a rescue, a retired dog from a breeder, or a dog that a breeder kept to grow up but did not turn out to be show quality.
